HP ramps up Netserver performance by 50%
Performance is officially up 50% on Hewlett-Packard’s Netserver lp1000r and lp2000r systems, equipped with the new Intel Pentium III/512 processors, according to the company today.
The firm says the performance improvements are consistent over varied workloads, including e-mail/messaging, application services and web serving.
HP also announced today that it’s supporting Pentium III/512 processors by incorporating the chips into its Intel IA-32 based server line.
The new processors are fabricated with Intel’s new 0.13 micron process which has enabled a smaller die size, faster clock speeds and low power consumption – and allowed the L2 cache size to be doubled from 256kb to 512kb. This allows the server to store frequently used programs or data and decreases main memory access latency.
Also, clock speeds on the HP Netserver lp1000r and HP Netserver lp2000r systems have reached up to 1.26GHz, further speeding connection.
