Increasing data centre migration activity need warning

Technology refreshes and data centre consolidation projects will increase this year, as the global economy improves and companies struggle to align their IT with business requirements.

That's the view from SANpulse Technologies, which cites soundings in the Wall Street Journal and opinion from analyst Gartner as indicating significant pent up demand. Peter Mehta, CEO of the IT migration specialist, explains that, while many organisations are planning technology refreshes to increase business agility after years of flat spending, others are architecting more efficient data centres designed to reduce their legacy system costs. That being the case, and with storage environments a significant part of any technology migration process, he warns IT managers to watch how they go about the change – observing that the real issue is maintaining optimal productivity. "This requires a deep understanding of the current environment, efficient capturing of system dependencies, and precise execution from start to finish" says Mehta. SANpulse, he says, provides a high level of automation and intelligence, to reduce the risk of complex storage migrations via the company's SANlogics software platform. He also insists that the solution allows companies to upgrade and optimise their IT storage infrastructures in a fraction of the time required by traditional means – and at greatly reduced cost and risk. "Leveraging SANlogics, we are able to ensure timely delivery of large and complex initiatives within budget, while in parallel incorporating best practices and mitigating risk," he adds.
