Global mobile satellite firm Inmarsat is working with Satamatics and SkyWave Mobile Communications – both satellite telematics providers – to offer next generation IsatM2M two-way comms for machine-to-machine applications.

Based on Inmarsat D+, the new service will, say the companies, improve user experience by offering faster data forwarding rates, quicker responses to polling requests and shorter time to first transmission for a broad range of applications. SkyWave and Satamatics say they will be providing products and services that enable VARs and end-users to take advantage of the new IsatM2M features. Says Michael Butler, president and COO at Inmarsat: “IsatM2M will provide improved functionality without the need for expensive network upgrades. Building on the success of our D+ service, IsatM2M will bring a range of additional benefits for M2M applications, and will meet the growing demand for faster and more sophisticated satellite telematics.” In brief detail, IsatM2M provides seamless global coverage and has been designed for to applications that require low latency and low power consumption but reliable communications, as well as predictable performance and dependable roaming in far flung places. Satamatics’ and SkyWave’s products provide accurate GPS tracking and data logging of vehicles, personnel and equipment on land, sea and air, covering areas of the world beyond the reach of traditional methods of communication. “The launch of IsatM2M represents a significant development for us. It will allow more flexibility in the deployment of our products and a faster service, which gives us a competitive edge in the market place,” explains Peter Chisholm CEO of Satamatics. “Our engineers and customers have already begun to develop new products which will fully utilise the benefits presented by IsatM2M.”
