UK car production has fallen for the second month running, according to new figures published today (24 July) although the commercial vehicle sector fared better.
The figures, from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), show June production was, at 131,468, 4.4% down on the previous month. Cars made for export were hit hardest, being 7.2% down at 101,016. Those manufactured for home consumption were 6.1% up at 30,452.
However, year to date, the total was, at 824,591, almost eight per cent up on the same period in 2007.
Commercial vehicle production continues to rise – 12.7% up in June and up 10.5% for the year to date – with both home and export volumes up and growth in both the lighter and heavier end of the market.
