Chilled and frozen foods giant Kerry Foods is expanding its relationship with e-commerce organisation GXS by outsourcing its complex B2B supply chain management operations to GXS Managed Services.
Peter Johnson, senior business analyst responsible for Kerry Foods' customer supply chain systems, expects GXS to simplify, manage and run its B2B supply chain.
He explains that GXS will also improve support, as customers diversify in terms of technology and standards, as well as encouraging ease of system adoption among Kerry's supplier base.
Beyond all that, Johnson believes that GXS will deliver the potential to integrate new trading partners more quickly and easily, while also improving the trading network's security and disaster recovery and interfacing with the company's third-party logistics suppliers.
"GXS Managed Services allows us to farm out specific areas of technical expertise and effort and all the associated headaches," comments Johnson. "Without GXS, we could have accomplished this ourselves, but our relatively small team would have been completely consumed in this effort for a considerable period.
Kerry Foods is a long-standing customer of GXS, which he says has over the years enabled the firm to react to changing customer requirements for increased supply chain efficiencies – as evidenced by escalating interest in using ASNs and sending RFID data within ASNs via EDI.
"With GXS, we have been able to focus our time and energy on strategy, not the leg-work. As a business, we are firmly of the view that smart deployment of technology and automation can deliver competitive advantage, and GXS Managed Services is no exception," says Johnson.
