A tool to improve safety at loading bays has been launched by Easilift Loading Systems and Traka.
The Anti-Drive-Off – Loading Bay Management System ensures drivers can't move vehicles and that dock doors are only opened by qualified staff after an accident.
Drivers exchange vehicle keys for a Traka iFob under the system. A master iFob containing an electronic chip is inserted into a Traka cabinet by the transport manager and the dock doors will only open when they are removed.
A second iFob is handed to the driver as a receipt and exchanged for the vehicle keys once the job is finished.
The system gives a full audit trail of loading bay activity.
The technology aims to combat high accident levels identified at loading bays by recent Health and Safety Executive (HSE) figures. Over 10% of fatal or major incidents occur while loading or unloading according to the HSE.
Easilift sales director, David Whyatt said: "We are determined to find a practical and cost-effective answer to this on-going problem and are therefore proud to have worked together with Traka."
John Kent, chief executive of Traka, said: "Drive away accidents are a major concern to the materials handling industry and so we are delighted to have joined forces with Easilift."
