Looking cool at Big Bang
Young people looked forward to summer as they made the latest 'must have' neon sunglasses at Manchester's Big Bang science and engineering spectacular this month.
Budding young engineers and manufacturers entered the Make It Zone to get to grips with laser cutters to engineer their cool 'shades' – adding their own personalised designs to the arms. They also mastered electronics to make special tea lights, and used vinyl cutting machinery to make badges.
Make It in Manufacturing (www.makeit.org.uk) is a campaign led by the Manchester-based Manufacturing Institute and its industry partners to encourage the next generation of talent to consider careers in industry.
Helping to run the Make It activities were young apprentices from Bolton's MBDA, and Sellafield's Capenhurst site, near Chester.
