Aircraft engine manufacturer Lycoming, a division of AVCO, says it has implemented a sell-side e-business system in under 75 days using Comergent e-business systems. And it claims the system is streamlining its selling and order management processes while reducing operating costs and making buying easier for customers.
Lycoming engines power more than 50% of all general aviation piston-powered aircraft and 80% of all new aircraft in its power range. It has some 7,000 products sold through more than 80 distributors as well as OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as Cessna, Robinson Helicopter and Piper.
With its new E-Commerce Gateway, Lycoming customers can now go online to get accurate and current product information, check pricing and availability, place orders and track their order status 24 hours a day. Customers get a secure, custom web workspace, and since the software is integrated with Lycoming’s Oracle ERP system, processes are automated around single order entry at any point.
“Comergent’s software has dramatically streamlined our selling processes by allowing us to eliminate costly manual procedures,” says Monica Konyar, manager of customer service at Lycoming. She says it’s not only an effective revenue channel, but also “a basis upon which to build our e-business presence. The net result will be more satisfied customers because we are servicing them more efficiently and making it easier for them to do business with us.”
