Wolverhampton-based Berry Systems, which is part of major infrastructure products group HS Holdings plc, was appointed to deliver vehicle barrier systems at Westfield White City and the impressive £70m Lincoln Transport Hub, along with the full refurbishment of the Merrywalks MSCP in Stroud.
It has also worked with Laing O’Rourke on the new Area Seven multi-storey car park at Manchester Airport, where it supplied 3000 meters of its BS6180 compliant spring steel buffer system perimeter edge protection across nine levels.
These latest projects mark an ongoing period of growth that has seen the firm increase sales significantly and expand its workforce by 25% as it looks to develop activities in adjacent markets.
“Our expertise and attention to technical detail is driving a lot of interest and we are currently working through a pipeline of opportunities for architects, engineers, local authorities and property developers,” explained Steve Dunn, Managing Director of Berry Systems.
“The marketplace is now realising that we offer more than just the off highway vehicle barrier systems. Instead, we can offer a single-source solution that covers every element of constructing a car park, from design concept and feasibility studies to delivering a complete package of work encompassing the whole building construction.”
He continued: “In essence, we are increasingly moving into a principal contractor role and that is helping our customers when it comes to budget, lead time and agility of solutions.
“There is also a constant demand for new products and services. Lincoln Transport Hub is a prime example of this – we actually designed a bespoke suicide deterrent to the barriers, something we hadn’t done before, but a development that is now proving very successful.”
Berry Systems has invested heavily in meeting the renewed demand from its national client base by taking on four new specialists, with another three positions currently being recruited, including Technical Sales, Sales Estimator and a Design Manager.
This is on the back of a brand refresh and new promotional campaigns that will support strategic expansion plans around facades, VRS development, refurbishment of structures, primary and secondary steelwork, not to mention the management capability to cover civils, concrete repairs and deck coating to new and existing floor slabs.
The increase in services is part of a five-year growth plan that will position the business, located on Springvale Business and Industrial Park, as one of the first choices when considering car park build or redevelopment.
Steve went on to add: “We are passionate about providing a turnkey solution and our customers appreciate our ability to deliver high quality products and services that protect drivers and pedestrians, whilst still maintaining the architectural aspirations of the car park or surrounding landscape.”
He concluded: “The other big development over the next twelve months will be the roll-out of new Top Deck structures, which provide a bespoke modular car park that we can construct quickly and meets the growing need for more parking spaces. The modular parking deck complies with all relevant building regulations and legislation.”
