Majorfax, a supplier of machined and finished castings, is to sponsor a student engineering award for the Black Country University Technical College, with the aim of encouraging the next generation of skilled engineers into the manufacturing industry.
The Walsall-based firm said it had established a positive relationship with the college in a bid to raise awareness with the local youth of engineering opportunities and to help alleviate the industry's well-publicised skills challenges.
Managing director Steve Cooper (pictured, left, with Black Country University Technical College's Gordon Mills) began his own manufacturing career as an apprentice. He said that it was fortunate that apprenticeships that were once plentiful and engendered pride were starting to make a comeback as manufactures began to realise the need to invest in future generations before it was too late.
