Britain’s future economic security is at stake pending the successful outcome of the forthcoming renegotiation and referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU, former Cabinet minister Lord Mandelson (pictured) will tell a senior business audience today.

As Prime Minister David Cameron sets out more details of his negotiating position in a letter to EU President Donald Tusk, the former EU Trade Commissioner will address a senior business audience at EEF’s inaugural Annual Manufacturing Lecture to be delivered at the Royal Society in London on Tuesday evening.

Terry Scuoler, chief executive of EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation said: “Lord Mandelson brings with him a wealth of experience both at ministerial level in Britain and in Brussels. Our annual lecture will be an opportunity to reflect on the Prime Minister’s proposed letter to the EU President, Donald Tusk, setting out the parameters of Britain’s renegotiation on EU membership.

“For manufacturers the decision as to whether or not Britain remains part of the EU is pivotal because most of them export to Europe or, are part of supply chains that are integral to the EU. It’s in all our interests to see the single market strengthened and extended and we need to be at the heart of decision-making and influencing decisions.”
