Train wheel and axle and gearbox manufacturer Lucchini UK has invited fellow manufacturers to its Trafford Park factory as part of The Manufacturing Institute's Profit Programme.

At the event, guests learned more about the £2.4 million package of funded support that is available to help them increase efficiency, drive sales and marketing, develop skills, unlock cashflow and boost innovation. They also learned how Lucchini's LukoMotion continuous improvement programme is boosting the company's performance. Lucchini, which has a history of more than 100 years, in Trafford Park, has invested £15m in a bid to make it a one-stop shop for passenger and freight wheelsets and gearboxes. The Manufacturing Institute is supporting Lucchini with its continuous improvement drive. Manufacturers were also given advice on claiming R&D tax credits by CLB Coopers, while HSBC provided guidance SME funding for export. Dr Julie Madigan, chief executive of The Manufacturing Institute, said: "Lucchini's business improvement journey provided valuable insights to the breakfast guests. We are delighted to be contributing to Lucchini's continued success through our Profit Programme. "Other manufacturers in the North West are urged to tap into this support, starting with a fully funded business review session at their factory. This provides an opportunity to discuss current challenges with a manufacturing expert, who will listen carefully and then help create an action plan for immediate business performance improvement. Follow up subsidised consultancy, coaching and training support is available to implement the actions." The Manufacturing Institute is funding the Profit Programme, which is matched by support from the European Regional Development Fund.
