Manufacturing processes help Aga counter downturn

The upmarket cast iron cooker manufacturer Aga Rangemaster has praised new manufacturing processes for providing new opportunities for commercial success and efficiency.

Aga had a "tough end to the year" although sales and profits were reckoned to be satisfactory given the caution of customers in the current economic environment. "The evolving product mix, introduction of new manufacturing processes and the support of new administrative systems have brought new commercial and efficiency opportunities from which the Group is benefiting. These will be supported with further initiatives in the months ahead with particular emphasis being placed on building on our international presence," the Leamington Spa, Warwickshire-based company said in a trading update. "The strong British manufacturing and brand heritage, together with the group's innovative products, are relevant themes which we expect to gain in importance in Britain and overseas during 2012." Chief executive William McGrath (pictured) went on: "The Group has recently launched a formidable range of products including the Aga Total Control that will drive us forward in 2012. These products will be backed by commercial and operational efficiency gains that build firmly on the progress already achieved."
