A lack of visibility into manufacturing processes is the biggest issue plaguing manufacturer, according to a survey by intelligence solutions provider Ubisense.
Its 2014 Smart Manufacturing Technologies Survey revealed that 40% of manufacturers had no visibility into the real-time status of their manufacturing processes.
Other findings include 30% of manufacturers do have access to instant, real-time status of every product and 56% are using the limited visibility data they have to identify problems as they occur, meaning that over half of respondents only know about crises after they happen.
Ubisense's Adrian Jennings said: "The manufacturing world is talking about Industry 4.0, but this survey confirmed that most manufacturers are far from embracing cyber-physical systems which define the next Industrial Revolution."
The survey secured responses from 252 manufacturing engineers, product designers and quality management professionals.
