Marquin Engineering, which is installing the first Mori Seiki NH 4000 DGG twin-pallet horizontal machining centre in the UK, has taken advantage of Seiki Systems’ free DNC (direct numerical control) analysis offer.
The Heathtown, Wolverhampton-based subcontractor has ordered software to cover its remaining eight machine tools.
Marquin manufactures for military communications, railway electrification and track, commercial vehicle, suspension, off-road vehicle and hydraulic valve and transmission companies.
Batch sizes are from 50 to 3,000 units a day and CNC machining programs are often large, with frequent set-ups, so then firm wanted to improve CNC controls and traceability. When Seiki’s free offer confirmed a suitable package, it went for it.
Seiki makes the point that its DNC offer is not about an abridged or restricted use version: it’s fully functional, including installation, training and three months support.
The top level module provides machine monitoring, remote information data collection and alarms. Also, work planning and job queue management can be installed, providing all information electronically and in real time.
Says joint managing director George Spencer: “As the offer included all management software, together with commissioning to the new machine, it was a relatively low cost addition to include our other CNC machines.”
