Here we talk to Neil Lloyd, of FBC Manby Bowdler, about why he is backing the event. In keeping with the event’s theme, he also reveals his manufacturing superhero.
1) Why are you backing the MMS?
To our knowledge there hasn’t been a show such as the MMS in the country before. Its wide range of topics means that most of the needs of the manufacturing manager should be met. We’ve been helping manufacturers with the legal aspects of their businesses for nearly 200 years and see the event as a good way to demonstrate how we can help, be that with employment, debt collection, intellectual property or any other matters.
2) How important is it to get out of the factory to pick up best practice ideas? What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given doing this?
Taking time out to focus on the direction of your business is vital, and shows like MMS give you the opportunity to listen to best practices and then pick and choose which ones would suit your business. Best advice I’ve been given is to never rule anything in or out, stay open minded, and then select which practices you want to implement once you have time to reflect.
3) Who is your manufacturing superhero and why?
There are so many to choose from. I’d got for Philippa Oldham though. She is Head of Transport and Manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. She’s very much part of the fabric of UK Manufacturing and for me deserves the ‘superhero’ accolade for the work she does to encourage more women into the profession by being involved with Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS).
