At the recent SHD Logistics Awards, the company pledged its support to Transaid’s new access to healthcare project in Zambia. This pledge, along with others made on the night, will see the purchase of as many as 12 new bicycle ambulances for the project.
Transaid’s key aim is to transform lives through safe available and sustainable transport throughout the developing world: including improving occupational safety for those working in materials handling and logistics; providing individuals with valuable skills and training; and ensuring communities have access to vital healthcare.
The project will use bicycle ambulances to tackle severe cases of malaria for young children, ensuring they receive a vital new medicine that will delay the onset of severe malarial symptoms and give them enough time to reach a health facility and receive life-saving healthcare.
Says Transaid’s corporate partnerships officer Jade Ashby: “The whole Transaid team are thrilled. Thanks to the unbelievable support of Mentor and others, we will be able to almost double our existing fleet of bicycle ambulances at our new project in Zambia.”
Adds Mentor’s marketing manager Amy Alton: “We are really pleased to make this donation. It’s great to be able to support a cause that is so relevant to the work we do.”
