Growth in the enterprise mobility market has been slower than anticipated as IT decision makers give it at a low priority, according to a survey by Datamonitor.
Its report, Understanding adoption of mobility solutions, also reveals that mobility systems are often deployed together, as packaged solutions as both investment and penetration levels for mobile management, applications and security are at similar levels.
Datamonitor says that penetration for the five technologies assessed – mobile management, applications, security, platforms and integration and telematics – has only increased 5% since last year.
“It is clear that mobility is not a top priority for enterprises, with enterprise applications and IT systems management topping the agenda for [their] largest IT projects,” says Aphrodite Brinsmead, technology analyst and author of the study.
“Penetration should increase to 50% for mobile management in 2008, with the other technologies following close behind,” she adds. “But enterprises often overestimate their investment plans, and penetration is not likely to increase as much as indicated in this survey. However, it does appear from the results that enterprises are likely to make more investments in the medium term, rather than the short term.”
