New £100m support contract for VT

The group, better known for its shipbuilding work, already maintains the 3600-strong vehicle fleet of London's Metropolitan Police. VT, which now generates more than 80% of its revenue from non-manufacturing but often engineering-related activities, said it had been notified by Firebuy Limited, on behalf of the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG), that it is the selected bidder for the long term capability management of the New Dimension fleet of emergency vehicles and equipment modules used by the Fire and Rescue Services to attend major incidents. The contract is potentially worth in excess of £100m over the 16 years of its term and is expected to be signed later this month. The New Dimension programme, established following the September 11 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre, supplies equipment and procedures to enhance the capability of the fire and rescue service to respond to a range of incidents. It provides the fire and rescue service with equipment, procedures and training to respond to a range of threats including terrorist threats; chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents; industrial and domestic accidents; chemical spills and collapsed buildings; natural disasters; and floods and earthquakes.
