New IMechE president outlines manifesto
New Institution of Mechanical Engineers president, Professor Roderick Smith has vowed to tackle engineering challanges facing UK transport, environment and energy.
Professor Roderick Smith (pictured) – who has become the 126th president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers – has outlined his priorities for the year as helping to solve the engineering challenges for UK transport, environment and energy.
Professor Smith said: "I am proud to be the 126th President of this great Institution and hope that in my year as President we can push forward on helping to solve some of the big challenges facing the UK and the rest of the world in the areas of transport, environment and energy."
He is Research Professor of Advanced Railway Engineering at Imperial College and was previously Head of Mechanical Engineering there and at Sheffield University.
