Nissan Motor Manufacturing has extended its contract with NYK Logistics to incorporate collections across central Europe. NYK now supports the manufacture of Nissan's complete range of European-manufactured vehicles, in addition to its spare part operations in the Netherlands and its export parts business to Japan.
The central European business involves collections from first tier suppliers in Austria, Benelux, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, and builds on the existing Eastern European and UK operations provided by NYK.
NYK's pan-European automotive network is now making Nissan collections from the French/German border to the Russian border, as well as Turkey, using its in-house crossdock infrastructure in the Czech Republic, Germany and Italy. With a large range of components being moved from east to west, to the Nissan European assembly facilities in Barcelona and Sunderland, this is a highly time sensitive and exacting operation.
Andy Rogers, controller F&SS purchasing at Nissan International SA, said: "Further to conducting a tender process for our central European business, NYK were successful in being awarded the contract. The implementation was concluded during April with successful results. Nissan is pleased to expand its strategic logistics scope with NYK, developing future plans for a successful business relationship moving forward."
