Bosch Rexroth and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) teamed up at the end of July to host an Open House Day for the next generation of engineers.

Children aged 8-15, along with their parents, attended the event at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) in Coventry, and were shown the important roles engineers play in everyday life, as well as getting careers advice.

The attendees were also set a number of engineering challenges, including building electronic and hydraulic circuits.

“These are truly fantastic opportunities for students, and events like this are a great way to showcase what modern engineering is all about,” said Alastair Johnstone, managing director of Bosch Rexroth. “Frankly, it is only through raising awareness through events such as this, where we can showcase in a tangible way the fantastic career opportunities that we can offer to address the shortfall which currently exists between demand and supply - enabling us in turn to shape the future of our industry.”

“It was great to see so many children interested and wanting to know more about engineering. The challenges proved a hit with the kids and parents alike, with some very keen contestants,” added Andy Minturn, Business Development Manager at Bosch Rexroth.
