Oracle's announcement of the availability of its VM blade cluster reference configuration for Sun Blade 6000 systems promises to cut the time to deploy virtual infrastructures by up to 98%.
That's the figure, compared to multi-vendor configurations, according to Wim Coekaerts, senior vice president Oracle VM and Linux Engineering.
He makes the point that all components in this configuration have been tested together by Oracle, reducing the need for customer testing as well as designing to achieve a stable configuration.
"Assembling and integrating software and hardware systems from different vendors can be a huge barrier to deploying virtualised infrastructures, as it is often a complicated, time-consuming, risky and expensive process," explains Coekaerts.
"By delivering a pre-tested, single-vendor solution for the entire hardware and software stack, the new Oracle VM blade cluster reference configuration dramatically simplifies the process and can enable customers to set up … virtual infrastructures in a matter of hours, rather than weeks."
Users get pre-installed Oracle VM Server for x86 software on the Sun Blade servers with built-in networking and Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage Appliance, meaning high availability via the blade cluster as well as a documented best practice guide for users wanting highly virtualised applications or private cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS).
