Panasonic Business has become the latest member of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry, as it bids to drive innovation in the rail and utilities sectors.

One of the world’s biggest manufacturers, Panasonic is looking to work with the MTC to develop intelligent business solutions, such as a new trespass warning system that has been developed for the UK railway network. The fully automated system helps prevent trespass incidents at know hot spots.

“While our foundations are in consumer electronics, globally Panasonic is now 70% B2B,” said Tony O’Brien, managing director of the European solutions team at Panasonic Business. “We look forward to working with MTC to develop the connected technology solutions for the future of businesses.”

MTC chief executive Dr Clive Hickman said the addition of Panasonic to the centre would help boost its capabilities in connectivity and the Internet of Things.

“For the last three decades, Panasonic has been the world’s leading patent producer, so innovation is at the heart of the business,” he said. “This can be incredibly beneficial to MTC. I see a huge opportunity with our various research teams inviting Panasonic into current projects knowing that they have such a rich heritage in design and innovation.”
