Seven-time Best Factory Award (BFA) winner, PP Electrical Systems has hired Six Sigma specialist Len Palmer to steer plans to double turnover to £50m by 2015.

Palmer becomes operations director and will be charged with driving up performance at PP Electrical's Cheslyn Hay factory, named BFA Factory of the Year in 2008. Palmer, who joins from wiper system manufacturer B Hepworth, said: "One of my main roles will be to ensure that all of our processes are built to achieve flexible production and that any new starters are quickly trained to embrace 'lean'." Palmer will work with PP Electrical existing Six Sigma experts to ensure processes complement automation in cable presentation at the plant. Tony Hague, MD at PP Electrical Systems, expressed his delight with the appointment: He said: "Len is a major coup for our business and will bring with him unrivalled experience of setting-up and managing world class manufacturing facilities." He continued: "Even though there is some uncertainty in the current manufacturing climate, we're keen to plan for the future and to keep growing."
