Dairy group Robert Wiseman announced today (1 October) that profits for the half-year ending 3 October will be ahead of expectations.
It said milk sales had grown by more than 10% in comparison to the same period last year, boosted by increased supplies to the Co-op in after being named its 'Supreme Supplier of the Year' for 2009 in recognition of work undertaken to ensure availability of products, both at short notice and in difficult circumstances, following the collapse of Dairy Farmers of Britain.
The group was also supplying an additional 137 Sainsbury 'Local' stores and had also benefited from increased business from two large Spar wholesalers.
Increased capacity taking volume at the at the new Bridgwater dairy to 375 million litres from 250 million litres a year will be on stream before Christmas, slightly ahead of schedule and on budget.
