Ford closed the south coast plant in 2013 and moved 350 jobs to Turkey, in a move that drew criticism from unions and local politicians. Since then the site has gone unused, but property developers Mountpark, who paid £20 million for it, are now keen to have at least some units operational by early 2017.
The initial consultation closed today (Monday, 18 April) but locals will next be able to voice any concerns when the developer submits official plans to Southampton City Council in the coming months.
An official statement from Mountpark said the proposals could bring 1,000 jobs to Southampton.
“Our intention is to re-establish this site for employment in Southampton and to attract occupiers and employers which will re-introduce a range of jobs to the area,” it read.
