CAD and PLM (product lifecycle management) software firms PTC and Autodesk have announced a technology exchange agreement to enable interoperability for manufacturers in multi-CAD environments.
The pair say they plan to provide users with out-of-the-box integration between their systems to help their customers work more flexibly and adopt future technologies. Specifically, they also aim to decrease the overall effort and cost commonly associated with supporting complex engineering environments.
This agreement enables PTC to harness Autodesk’s RealDWG software development toolkit and deliver solutions using its DWG technology, so that PTC’s solutions become interoperable with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software.
Similarly, Autodesk will be able to utilise PTC’s Granite 3D modelling and interoperability kernel to provide better integration with Pro/Engineer, PTC’s integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE software.
“Interoperability continues to be a major challenge in manufacturing sectors including aerospace, automotive, high technology and industrial machinery,” comments Robert Kross, vice president of manufacturing solutions at Autodesk.
“We understand that our customers use a mix of products in their workflow, and providing them with the flexibility they need to get their jobs done is our priority,” he adds.
“We have chosen to continue our focus on eliminating interoperability challenges so that customers can place greater attention on the true value-added activities of product development,” says adds Brian Shepherd, divisional vice president, product management at PTC.
