Reaching CSR standards requires enterprise IT input

Corporate social responsibility boils down to 'the three P's' – people, profit and planet – according to IFS North America's senior advisor Bill Leedale, who is due to present on the subject at the APICS conference in Pittsburgh.

Leedale says he will be covering initiatives in the brewing industry, aimed at answering the requirements of the UN Global Compact. "Manufactures and industrial companies, not only in the brewing industry but in other industries, will be paying more attention to [ISO 14000, ISO 26000 and GRI G3.1] standards and reporting mechanisms, in part because of investor-driven initiatives like the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the Carbon Disclosure Project," advises Leedale. He says that current brewing industry initiatives shed useful light on how to find a sensible balance between the three P's, and points to IFS Applications' Eco Footprint Management software as particularly useful in delivering in three areas. For Leedale, these are: insight into which parts and processes of the business impact the environment; a clear methodology framework for measuring ecological impact; and "a head start on compliance with advancing environmental regulation".
