Rockwell puts lean systems onto the automotive shop floor

1 min read

Two lean manufacturing solutions aimed at improving the accuracy and efficiency of production and assembly line processes have been launched by Rockwell for the automotive industry.

The company says its Error Proofing and Andon Solutions will help minimise waste, increase product quality and optimise the use of parts and labour. Both harness Rockwell’s, FactoryTalk integrated production and performance suite along with its Logix control platform to share manufacturing data with business level systems. In particular, the Error Proofing system uses preconfigured modular templates within FactoryTalk View, FactoryTalk ProductionCentre and FactoryTalk Integrator to generate an interface with assembly lines. The templates provide work instruction displays, part verification and automatic tool control to guide operators through each step in production. This reportedly helps improve product quality and ensures that operations are completed in the correct order and within the allocated time. Meanwhile, the Andon system harnesses FactoryTalk Metrics, ProductionCentre and Integrator with Logix to help manufacturers capture real-time event information, identify production problems and adjust operations to cut downtime. It’s all about providing line side displays etc to display the real-time work status and production problems for operators. Rapid access to this kind of information cuts costly mistakes and builds production understanding.
