The Scottish operation of a global technology firm has won this year's RoSPA Scotland Trophy in recognition of its approach to controlling workplace health hazards. FMC Technologies of Dunfermline received the award at a ceremony in Glasgow earlier this week.

The trophy is presented annually as part of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in recognition of a leading performance by an organisation based or operating in Scotland. FMC Technologies' focus on occupational health impressed the judges, not only for its approach to the control of workplace health hazards but also its commitment to health promotion and workforce wellbeing, including smoking cessation and the provision of healthy dietary options and workplace fitness facilities. The firm also won the manufacturing industry sector award, which was presented at a ceremony in Birmingham in May. David Currie, managing director of FMC Technologies, said: "We are delighted to have achieved this award. Not only does it demonstrate our commitment to health safety and the environment (HSE) in the workplace – one of our core values as an organisation – it supports our vision to become a high performing organisation." He added: "We believe that our performance is driven by great people working in an environment which allows them to perform at their best; whether this is through our employee restaurant, on-site gym, the tools and equipment we have to do our job or through one of our many HSE-related teams we have on-site including our health promotions team. "Combined together, all of this contributes to our positive HSE culture and the health and wellbeing of our people – it's part of who we are and what we believe in."
