The Royal Mint has scooped gold awards for two of its British commemorative coin designs at this year's Coin of the Year Awards in Berlin.
The Royal Mint, which has an unbroken history of minting British coinage dating back over 1,000 years, collected the top accolades for Best Contemporary Event Coin and Most Inspirational Coin.
A silver £10 coin marking the London 2012 Olympic Games was named as the winner of Best Contemporary Event Coin, a category which honours historically important events in the past 99 years.
The award for the Most Inspirational Coin was given to The Royal Mint in recognition of the Remembrance 2012 Alderney £5 coin.
The coin's poppy design, created by The Royal Mint's engraver Emma Noble (pictured), carries the words that recall the moment peace was declared: 'The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.'
The awards were presented at the 2014 Coin of the Year Awards which took place at the Berlin World Money Fair. Entries submitted by countries and mints across the world were assessed by an international panel of judges comprising mint masters, artists and numismatists.
With over 300 exhibitors, 60 national mints or banks and a regular attendance of over 15,000 visitors, the Berlin World Money Fair is the largest annual numismatic event in the world.
