ERP system job management is getting smarter. For companies concerned about setting run priorities, US-based BMC Software has released tools that manage not by batch number but by end-to-end business process importance.
First, the company’s Control-M batch scheduler delivers dynamic batch scheduling management for the enterprise system. Then, its Batch Impact Manager identifies all critical end-to-end batch processes, provides status information and proactively detects potential delays and errors before business services are affected.
BMC director Gur Steif makes the point that on average, more than 50% of critical data processing is performed in batch mode – it’s not just for back-ups. So assuring on-time completion can make a substantial difference to firm’s wanting to deliver quality services.
The system works with SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft systems, and Steif says that the list of systems covered is growing. He also indicates that it can be used both at the detail shopfloor to monitor processes triggering JIT deliveries, and at the macro business level.
