Insurance firm Aviva has warned manufacturers to be extra vigilant on workplace safety ahead of the clocks going back next weekend.
Operators must ensure lighting on equipment and building is in working order in anticipation of darker mornings and nights, Aviva said.
Paul Grace liability risk manager at Aviva, said: "If employees use vehicles such as forklift trucks in warehouses, ensure that the vehicle is fitted with lights and is in good working order.
Employers should ensure staff car parks and pathways were properly lit, Grace added.
External building lights particularly those working on a sensor should also be checked, according to Aviva.
Risks caused by putting the clocks back were serious enough to spark a government review of the measure, Aviva stressed.
Grace concluded: ""The benefit of the clocks going back may be an extra hour in bed, but failing to manage the risks associated with those darker mornings and nights could result in some sleepless nights for businesses."
