Sagem Sécurité and Psion Teklogix partner on biometrics

Biometric mobile computing devices are one step closer, following the signing of a partnership deal between Psion Teklogix and Sagem Sécurité.

An imminent new system from the pair, dubbed MorphoCheck, is said to allow authentication of ID-documents, including electronic passports, ID cards, driving licenses and other ID documents. They describe it as a mobile, autonomous, lightweight multimodal terminal, capable of scanning 2D barcodes by reading the MRZ band via an OCR (optical character recognition) swipe reader, or reading embedded electronic chips. It can also send all this information to a remote central server. As such chips become more common on documents, capturing and matching fingerprints will become more important, indicates Paul Jainsky, chairman and CEO Sagem Sécurité. “Combining our know-how in biometric technology and [Psion’s] expertise in mobile computing will allow us to bring to the market the most secure biometric mobile computing solutions.” “Biometrics technology represents the future of security and we are pleased to be working with Sagem Sécurité,” adds Jacky Lecuivre, CEO Psion Teklogix. “We are thrilled to begin the development of a biometric mobile computing security solution that will help protect our customers for generations to come.”
