Smaller manufacturers could save thousands of pounds by using a software rental service, according to the Forum of Private Business (FPB), which is working with developer Rentsoft.
FPB members can now download applications for business planning, financial forecasting and accounts; sales, marketing and customer appointments – as well as staff records, staff scheduling, legal documentation and employment law.
“The idea is to give small businesses access to software packages that they would use on a fairly regular basis, but not often enough to justify the expense of buying them outright,” says FPB director of finance and administration Nick Palin. “The beauty of the scheme is that they can try out the software for free before committing to it.”
And the Business Software Centre’s Phil Hames adds that the service will also cut the hidden costs incurred after purchasing new software. All monthly payments for Rentsoft’s products cover updates and technical support.
“If you want to buy software you not only have to pay all of the price upfront, but also extra for IT support and extra for upgrades,” he says. “A lot of firms want to put money into IT but are not sure how it will work out – here the boot is on the other foot.”
A 30-day free trial is available, and then the software can be rented when required.
