Aerospace and defence association ADS has awarded the first gold award under the SC21 programme to logistics firm Wincanton for "unprecedented" service at the Houndstone site, near Yeovil.
Wincanton operates the Houndstone site on behalf of helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland and has achieved 99.98% performance in quality and 100% in delivery through a 12-month period on over 150,000 deliveries.
Ian Godden (pictured), ADS chairman, said the award recognised a "remarkable level of achievement". He added: "To achieve such a high performance on more than 150,000 deliveries over the course of a whole year demonstrates a strong business improvement culture and a commitment from all at the company to excellence.
"The constant improvement of the supply chain in our industries is crucial to retaining the UK's world-leading position and examples such as Wincanton will be invaluable in showing others the way forward."
Colin Turner, procurement manager for AgustaWestland, said: "AgustaWestland is delighted to have supported Wincanton in the achievement of the SC21 gold standard. The award demonstrates quite clearly how powerful the SC21 process can be in delivering measureable benefits to both the customer and supplier."
