The findings from the State of the Frontline Workforce Survey, conducted by workforce management platform Quinyx, challenge common perceptions about retention challenges in frontline industries, revealing that experienced workers in the sector report high levels of job security, flexibility, and balanced work hours. This contrasts with younger generations who cite burnout and job instability.
High Satisfaction Levels Among Mature Shipping and Distribution Workers
The picture for Shipping and Distribution Workers aged 54+ is, however, varied:
- 77% recorded the highest satisfaction levels at work (only beaten by 80% of same-aged hospitality workers)
- 55% view their current role as a long-term career choice
- Only 15% say they have a lack of scheduling flexibility
- Only 15% say they work too many hours
- Only 13% say they feel unappreciated
- Only 12% worry about losing their job
Conversely:
- 39% do not currently experience work-related stress (a much lower percentage compared to peers of the same age in retail, 46%, transport & warehousing, 52%, and hospitality, 67%)
- 21% say they have poor communication between them and management.
Mental and Physical Health of Shipping and Distribution Workers Aged 54+
Encouragingly, 48% of Shipping and Distribution Workers aged 54+ say their job has not negatively affected their mental or physical health.
