So called ‘smart client’ technology is worth looking out for on CDC Software’s latest version of Ross Enterprise ERP, now at v6.3, with the developer promising better interoperability, lower IT maintenance costs and increased visibility.
Smart Client is supposed to provide the benefits of a thin client GUI (maintenance-free, rapid deployment etc), but with the speed and functionality of a conventional PC client – essential for power users.
Neville Merritt, business development manager UK at Aspera Solutions, which represents Ross in the UK, says that improved access and integration to the Microsoft desktop enables users to extract data seamlessly from Ross ERP, using the familiar Microsoft Office products.
And he adds: “Fom an IT support perspective, the technology carries a lower total cost of ownership, through centralised system administration, minimised deployment costs and reduced maintenance requirements when installing system upgrades.”
Ross Enterprise v6.3 itself also provides several new application features, including extensive inventory visibility, including real-time net change views, covering finished goods and related intermediate products and ingredients.
There’s also a new process and production flow user enquiry, which provides visibility into material availability at one or all levels of production, based on scheduled dates and the recipe formula requirements.
