Small firms that want to move up to seeking out vulnerabilities, measuring risk and gaining visibility into their own security, throughout the infrastructure, can now get an off-the-shelf solution.
IT security testing specialist Core Security has launched a version of its Impact suite, dubbed Impact Essential, that, says CEO Mark Hatton, will fulfil the growing demand for security testing beyond the big boys.
“It’s clear that organisations have embraced security testing as a critical process for measuring the effectiveness of their security infrastructure and improving their ability to manage risk,” he says – adding that staying ahead of threats is neither the preserve of big budget companies, nor a one-size-fits-all solution.
Hatton says Impact Essential is not a ‘lite’ version of its Impact Pro flagship, now at version 7.6. “That description does it a disservice,” he says. “The new offering allows organisations to protect themselves against threat vectors on the client side and the network – although not web applications – and to validate what they’re getting from their vulnerability scanners.
“For the first time, we’re bringing automation into the product so that tests in Impact Pro can be carried out on a regular basis by non specialists. It’s ideal for SMEs and companies needing departmental systems.”
Hatton sees Impact Essential as extending the company’s reach to the broad base of IT professionals who worries about security, but also the infrastructure, operating systems etc.
“Smaller companies will no longer have to rely on periodic audits by consultants, such as IBM. But we also expect to sell it to consulting organisations, who may use it as part of their service,” says Hatton.
