SMEs offered ‘my very first SAN’ data storage

‘My very first SAN’ is the rather prosaic name given by Fujitsu Siemens Computers to its bundled SAN (storage area network) for smaller firms wanting a flexible solution to consolidating their storage in line with growing data volumes.

The company says there are several configurations aimed at matching different storage environment requirements – all based no fibre channel technologies. Dr Helmut Beck, vice president storage business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, says: “We have found that many companies are still reluctant to convert their storage infrastructure. Our ‘My very first SAN’ offers an easy, inexpensive way to start. Even smaller companies can now start reaping the benefits of having a SAN for their data storage, reflecting today’s high demands for information availability and security.” And he adds: “As the volume of business-critical data continues to increase at subsidiaries and branch offices, ‘My very first SAN’ is the best choice to extend a SAN infrastructure from the data centre to the remote offices.” The system comprises the new FibreCAT SX storage system (SX60 or SX80) plus quality SAN switches from Brocade and host bus adapters from Emulex.
