UK environmental energy system engineering firm Solar Century says it has successfully implemented out-of-the-box Enovia SmarTeam Engineering Express and Design Express for SolidWorks in just two months.

Mat Burgess, Solar Century's development manager, reckons the software will save Solar time and money by improving synchronisation, analysis and delivery of information both within the company and outside to partners and suppliers. "Like many growing companies, Solar Century was running a range of diverse business management software which was not effectively connected," explains Burgess. "This led to some operational inefficiencies which needed to be addressed." And he adds: "By partnering with UK Dassault VAR Design Rule, we introduced the flexible Enovia SmarTeam-based methodology that provides the tools to manage all future business expectations." Now, he says, as itsr business activities extend, Solar Century can modify and expand the solution accordingly, in a phased manner. In brief detail, Engineering Express (which is preconfigured), provides a full PLM solution for mid-sized companies. With it, Solar Century has successfully integrated management of product and process data, including change orders (workflows), documentation, bills-of-materials, quotations and material specifications, as well as immersive management of SolidWorks models from the CAD application. What's more, because it is based on standard Microsoft applications, Engineering Express could be quickly adapted to its needs.
