South Tyneside Manufacturing Forum is to "address the challenges of upskilling and apprenticeships" in order to realise opportunities for real jobs in the supply chains of companies such as Nissan, Hitachi, Siemens and Nifco.
It wants to help ensure businesses in South Tyneside are equipped and supported to take full advantage of recent positive job announcements in the region.
South Tyneside Manufacturing Forum said it had worked hard to engage employers, schools, colleges, young people and the wider business community.
The Forum Board believe a tie up with the sector skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing, Semta, will help strengthen their work.
Welcoming a bolstering of its partnership with Semta, Forum chairman Geoff Ford said his organisation would be working closely with the skills council "to address the challenges of upskilling and apprenticeships" and would be collaborating on a joint event later in the year to look in more depth at the issues.
