A competition launched by CompAir and Hydrovane to find the UK's oldest working compressors is drawing to a close with the winners set to be announced at Air-Tech 2014, but there's still time enter for free at www.oldestcompressor.co.uk

So far the competition has attracted a wide range of entries with old, but still fully functioning CompAir and Hydrovane compressors being discovered, all with interesting stories to tell. For example, entries include a CompAir compressor with a history of military service, and a Hydrovane compressor that's operating in a facility that has been awarded a Nobel prize for engineering. Entrants to the competition are automatically entitled to a free energy audit from an authorised distributor, which will help customers identify current energy usage and assess their compressed air needs. The winners will receive a weekend for two in London, including a meal at the City's oldest restaurant. Both part of the Gardner Denver group, CompAir and Hydrovane pride themselves on the durability and reliability of their equipment. As well as marking their engineering heritage, the competition is also about celebrating compressors, which are often the forgotten heroes of the industrial world. Entries close on 4 April, with the two winners announced at the Air-Tech exhibition between 8 and 10 April at the NEC, Birmingham.
