Toyota Motor’s Powertrain Division has now deployed PTC’s Windchill PDMLink 8.0 PLM (product lifecycle management) solution as part of its strategic process improvement initiative – building on the work the two companies have been doing together since 2002.
It’s part of Toyota’s goal to improve the product development processes that lead to quality improvement, productivity gains and a reduction in powertrain development time. Ultimately, Toyota envisions Windchill providing the foundation for engineering data management for the division.
Toyota also says that it has achieved design cycle time reductions and process improvements using modelling and simulation with PTC’s Pro/Engineer 3D CAD – and that the PLM technology will build on that by improving data management and collaboration.
“The partnership we have with Toyota is succeeding because of our joint commitment to develop technology solutions that are focused on providing process improvements that have tangible impact on Toyota’s ability to decrease its development costs and development times,” says Richard Harrison, president and CEO, PTC.
