Logistics firm S&J European Haulage has cut fuel costs thanks to three new curtainsider trailers manufactured by Schmitz Cargobull of Harelaw, Co Durham,
One of the new vehicles (pictured) will be dedicated to S&J's work for the Palletforce pallet network and has been liveried accordingly. S&J delivers around 80 pallets a day to Palletforce customers based around Leicester and Melton Mowbray, and to boost efficiency the new trailer has been fitted with a tail lift.
All three vehicles have been specified with front and rear lifting axles, which remain raised if the trailer is running at less than fully laden, meaning rolling resistance is dramatically reduced for lighter loads. As a result, S&J is reporting considerable fuel savings with the new trailers.
"Because we have seldom had to have all three axles down, rolling resistance has been minimised and we are achieving significant fuel efficiency benefits, as well as savings on tyre wear," says MD Steve Haines.
