Toyota's three European forklift manufacturing plants have now all achieved OHSAS 18001 certification, the occupational health and safety management standard.
Toyota Material Handling Europe's (TMHE) largest production site in Mjölby, Sweden (pictured) received the accreditation last month. The factory is one of the largest warehouse truck manufacturing plants in the world, with 76,000 m2 of factory space and 1,450 employees. The company's other factories in Ancenis, France and Bologna, Italy achieved the standard in 2009.
The Swedish factory produces 55,000 powered trucks as well as 70,000 hand pallet trucks per year and its central warehouse contains 40,000 spare parts for worldwide distribution.
OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems. It helps organisations to control occupational health and safety risks.
All three Toyota Material Handling European factories have a safety dojo where employees receive compulsory training on safety risks and factory regulations.
