Data shows that 248,463 engines were produced last month compared to 239,086 in September 2016 – a rise of 3.9%.
Domestic demand rose 11.1% from 108,867 in September 2016 to 120,905 in September 2017.
Meanwhile, export demand fell from 130,219 in September 2016 to 127,558 last month (-2.0%).
Year-to-date data shows that more than two million new British engines have been manufactured so far – a 5% increased on last year.
Says SMMT chief Mike Hawes: “UK engine manufacturing has repeatedly demonstrated the benefits of long-term investment into R&D and plants. It’s pleasing to see production exceed the 2 million mark already but future success depends on strong demand at home and abroad. The European market, which is the destination for the majority of our engines, continues to grow so it’s important we maintain free and frictionless access.”
