Unite has praised Ed Miliband as a man prepared to stand up for manufacturing after his election as Labour party leader.
Unite joint general secretary Tony Woodley said: "Ed has won by hitting the issues people care about- stopping the assassination of public services, fighting for a living wage, standing up for manufacturing."
Unite, Britain's biggest trade union, urged Labour party members to rally behind Miliband and take the fight to the Conservative party.
Miliband beat off rivals David Miliband, Andy Burnham, Diane Abbott and Ed Balls to take the leadership crown.
Miliband said he was "deeply proud" to lead the party and outlined his determination to build a fairer economy.
Miliband said: "We will seek to build a new kind of economy that works for people. We will address inequalities and expand opportunity. And we will place values at the heart of our society; values of family, time, work, community and the environment around us."
