United Utilities is to implement Trillium Software's data quality management suite as part of a data governance initiative aimed at improving efficiencies around asset management, customer service and billing.
With plant assets valued at £8 billion, the underlying data is described as critical to ensuring their effective management and maintenance, and, in turn, keeping UU's 3 million business and domestic customers in the North West of England happy.
Similarly, accurate delivery address information and customer details are key to UU's customer service, billing and revenue recovery operations.
Christopher Evans, enterprise information manager at United Utilities, makes the point that, given the size of its operation, even small improvements in data quality can have a significant positive impact.
"We selected the Trillium Software System over competing solutions for its capability across multiple and complex data sets, its ease of use and strong customer references," states Evans.
"The ability to deliver the highest quality of service to our customers depends upon good data and effective processes. They also help us to meet the compliance requirements of the Water Services regulation authorities," he adds.
Evans says the system will also support the utility in its data governance initiatives by helping it to understand the accuracy, consistency and completeness of its information – and helping management to monitor data quality over time and identify any areas needing attention.
